Music News: Diane Warren Loses 14th Oscar Nomination
Diane Warren has responded to her latest Oscars loss.
At this yearâs Academy Awards ceremony in Los Angeles on Sunday, the Canât Fight the Moonlight songwriter lost her 17th nomination for Best Original Song, meaning she now holds the record for the most nominations without a win.Â
According to Variety, Warren made light of her latest loss on social media after the ceremony, writing, âWell at least Iâm consistent! And I set a new record tonite!! But U know me, I will be back if youâll have me (sic)!!!â
Warren may well keep her promise as she has been nominated for Best Original Song every year since 2016 and is likely to return again in 2027.Â
The 69-year-old was previously tied with sound mixer Greg P. Russell with 16 nominations and no wins. Sundayâs ceremony gave her the all-time record for the most nominated person to not yet have a competitive Oscar.
This year, she was nominated for Dear Me, performed by Kesha, from her documentary Diane Warren: Relentless. However, she lost out to Golden from KPop Demon Hunters.Â
While she has yet to win a competitive Oscar, Warren was bestowed an honorary Academy Award in 2022.Â
She recently told The New York Times that she still wants to achieve glory in the Best Original Song category.Â
âYou know, I still havenât won the competitive one. And Iâm a competitive person. Itâs amazing to have the honorary Oscar â" thatâs harder to get than the competitive. I donât take that for granted,â she said. âBut, yeah, I still want to win. My honorary Oscar gets really lonely. He wants a friend. He hangs out with Rabbit, my cat, but he prefers to have an Oscar buddy.â
She added, âBut Iâve never taken awards as validation. The work is validation. When people love the songs, thatâs validation. Who doesnât want to win, right? But you canât live and die by that because itâs out of your control. Whatâs in my control is to do the best work I can.â
