Music News: Kim Petras Wants To Be Dropped
Kim Petras has requested to be âdroppedâ from her record label.
The 33-year-old pop star has urged Republic Records to release her from her contract, claiming that the company has not set a release date for her upcoming album Detour.
In a post on X, Kim wrote: âIâm tired of having no control over my own life or career.
âI want to continue to self fund and self curate my own music.
âThis is why I have formally requested to be dropped by @RepublicRecords.â
She stated: âMy album has been done for 6 months but my record label has refused to give me a release date or pay my collaboratorâs for the work theyâve done.â
The Unholy hitmaker â" who collaborated with Sam Smith on the track for his 2023 album Gloria â" also discussed an untitled music video sheâs waiting to release.
She claimed: âOh ya I also filmed and self funded a music video over 2 months ago for my next single that they also wouldnât give me a release date for.
âBest MV Iâve ever done btw⦠9 looks 6 setups 13 pairs of shoesâ¦â
Kim criticized the music industry for prioritizing social media trends and âqueerbaiting s***â, while emphasizing that her new music is âteaâ.
She continued: âI won a grammy 2 years ago⦠the music is TEA. Still no support.
âIf itâs not a tiktok trend or 80s revival queerbaiting s*** these labels have no interest in supporting. (sic)â
Nevertheless, she assured her fans that her third record will be released âregardlessâ of the situation with her label, who have not publicly responded.
She said: âMy fans have waited long enough. I love u guys. Iâm dropping Detour regardless. (sic)â
