Music News: Moby Drops New LP
Moby has announced his new album Future Quiet.
The 60-year-old producer and artist will release his 23rd studio album on February 20 and it will include a reimagined version of the Stranger Things song When Itâs Cold Iâd Like To Die, with Gabrielsâ Jacob Lusk.
Moby said: âLike anyone whoâs heard Jacob sing, I immediately fell in love with his voice. After hearing him sing on the radio, I spent weeks tracking him down and begging him to work with me. And, lucky me, he agreed.
âThe results speak for themselves, as his vocals on When Itâs Cold Iâd Like To Die are, I say with something approaching objectivity, transcendent.â
Along with the track, which originally featured on Mobyâs 1995 album Everything Is Wrong, the new album will feature a variety of guest collaborations across 11 tracks.
love excess and volume. But as the world gets louder and crazier I find myself needing the refuge of quiet, both as a listener and as a musician.
âFor me, and hopefully for others, Future Quiet is a refuge. The world, self-evidently, is more demanding than itâs ever been. The world screams at us, our screens scream at us, other people scream at us, and to retreat from the screaming we need safety and refuge. That for me is the goal of Future Quiet. Writing and recording it was a refuge for me, and I hope that listening to it is a refuge for you.â
Meanwhile, Moby has already sold more than 20 million records in his career and is credited with helping to bring dance music to a mainstream audience in the 90s.
However, he acknowledged last year that fame and fortune are âtwo of the most destructive forces on the planetâ.
Speaking from his home in Los Angeles, Moby told Sky News: âI think fame and fortune are, probably, empirically two of the most destructive forces on the planet. I mean, if fame and fortune fixed things, Kurt Cobain and Amy Winehouse would still be making records.
âI guess itâs a very easy system to buy into, especially in a place like ⦠in New York, in Los Angeles, in these big cities that are driven by ostentation and consumption and the need for external validation. Itâs hard to resist those temptations. But then ⦠you look at the consequences of that.
âIâd rather try and live a rational life and not necessarily let other peopleâs concerns dictate what my concerns should be.â
