Macaulay Culkin's New Christmas Commercial Honors 'Home Alone'

In a nostalgic nod to one of the most iconic holiday movies of all time, Macaulay Culkin has starred in a new Christmas commercial that pays tribute to his role in 'Home Alone'.

In the commercial for Google Assistant, Culkin recreates several famous scenes from the 1990 classic film, where he played Kevin McCallister, a young boy accidentally left behind when his family goes on Christmas vacation. The original film sees Kevin setting up a series of booby traps to defend his home from two burglars. The new ad brings a modern twist to this premise, with Kevin now using Google Assistant to help protect his home.

In the ad, an adult Kevin wakes up in an empty house, reminiscent of the opening scenes of 'Home Alone'. He asks his Google Assistant about his day, and it reminds him that he is home alone. From there, viewers are treated to a series of familiar scenes, including Kevin jumping on his parents’ bed, eating a huge bowl of ice cream, and of course, setting up his home defense system.

However, instead of the manual traps of the original movie, this time Kevin uses Google Assistant to lock the doors, turn on the lights, and start 'Operation Kevin', his plan to deter potential robbers. The commercial ends with a pizza delivery, just like in the film, but this time ordered via Google Assistant.

Google’s ad cleverly recreates many of the original props and sets from the film, including the McCallister family living room, Kevin's BB gun, and even the Michael Jordan cardboard cutout used to create the illusion of a house party. The soundtrack also features the classic 'Home Alone' theme, adding another layer of nostalgia.

The commercial not only promotes Google Assistant’s features but also celebrates the enduring popularity of 'Home Alone'. Since its release more than three decades ago, the film has become a Christmas classic, with many families around the world watching it as part of their holiday traditions.

Culkin’s appearance in the ad has been met with delight from fans of the film. The actor, who has largely stayed out of the spotlight in recent years, appears to be embracing his iconic role with good humor.

The commercial is a fun and modern homage to 'Home Alone', showcasing how technology has changed since the film's release, but also reminding us of the timeless joy and humor of the original movie.
