David Byrne’s Married

Included in a profile piece for the recently published issue of The New Yorker, David Byrne confirmed that, in September, he tied the knot with business woman Mala Gaonkar.

During the interview, the Talking Heads frontman stated “I said I would never get married again, after I got divorced.” “It was just working out really well, so we said, ‘Well, let’s do this for our friends and family.'”

Though Byrne choose not to share any further details about the nuptials, the iconic artist and hedge fund manager have lived together in New York for quite some time. Yet in an August interview with The Times, the now 74-year old musician addressed the 56-year old Mala as his “fiancée”. 

It was while discussing his forthcoming Who Is The Sky? LP and the inspiration behind the single, ‘Moisturizing Thing,’ that the superstar singer-songwriter let the cat out of the bag with:

“My fiancée will sometimes come at me with greasy hands, ready to smear my face. And at one point I thought, ‘What if I wake up and really looked younger?'” “But there’s a message, too. About how people judge us by the way we look. You learn a lesson you didn’t expect at the start.”

Not his first marriage, David previously wed artist and designer Adelle Lutz between 1987 and 2004, with whom he shares an adult daughter. 

Meanwhile, Mala has two sons with her ex-husband Oliver Haarmann, and since July of 2024, her former spouse has been romantically linked to Reese Witherspoon.
