- 0:00 | Superman.
- 0:02 | Miss Lane,
- 0:05 | recently you've come under a lot of fire
- 0:07 | for what some might It's a lot. I
- 0:10 | stopped a war. In effect, you illegally
- 0:13 | entered a country. This is how you're
- 0:15 | going to be. I'm not the one being
- 0:16 | interviewed, Superman. Rachel, I got to
- 0:19 | ask you right off the bat. I have not
- 0:20 | had a chance to interview Skyler yet
- 0:22 | today. That's later. Who's the better
- 0:24 | reporter in the newsroom? Is it you or
- 0:26 | is it Jimmy? Lois or Jimmy or me and
- 0:30 | Skyler? Very important distinction.
- 0:31 | Well, go Lois and Jimmy for the sake of
- 0:33 | the movie. Not even a question, Lois.
- 0:36 | But in real life, I could listen to
- 0:38 | Skyler report on the Daily Planet set
- 0:41 | all day long. It's so fun seeing you all
- 0:43 | interact at the Daily Planet. Then
- 0:44 | obviously we have the scene that's
- 0:45 | already gone viral. The movie hasn't
- 0:47 | even come out yet where you're
- 0:48 | interviewing him as Superman. What was
- 0:50 | y'all's backstory as far as your
- 0:53 | relationship starting? Was there a meat
- 0:55 | cute?
- 0:58 | Very well doumented one. I think we
- 1:00 | can't tell you that. I think that's uh
- 1:02 | because we for all we know it might get
- 1:05 | explored in a in a future film. But we
- 1:07 | did have I've been saying it. Well, not
- 1:09 | in specifics. Not too specific, but but
- 1:12 | so the cool thing is like getting to
- 1:14 | start in the middle of the relationship.
- 1:15 | We did get to discuss that with James
- 1:17 | and talk about possibilities. And I
- 1:18 | don't think James had really settled on
- 1:20 | the specifics before we came in. So, we
- 1:22 | got to talk about it and kind of explore
- 1:23 | it together, the three of us. They
- 1:24 | didn't settle with me privately, cuz I'm
- 1:28 | watching Lois and I'm like, did she fall
- 1:29 | in love with Superman first or Clark
- 1:31 | first? I see. I can't wait to see that
- 1:33 | come out on screen. So, if you've been
- 1:34 | talking about it and ruining it, my
- 1:36 | gosh. Sorry. Well, James had thoughts
- 1:38 | about it. I think I was like, it's got
- 1:39 | to be more specific for me. Yeah. Yeah.
- 1:41 | It's important when you're skipping it
- 1:42 | in the movie to know, you know, what
- 1:44 | what happened in your mind. Yeah. Maybe
- 1:46 | we have different ideas of what
- 1:47 | happened. I would love for us to We
- 1:48 | probably do have very different ideas.
- 1:50 | It'd be a fun new game to have you show,
- 1:51 | right?
- 1:53 | See how different it is. Bring out the
- 1:54 | whiteboards. It was so great watching
- 1:57 | you all have that interview scene
- 1:58 | because I felt like in the midst of this
- 2:00 | massive wonderful comic book superhero
- 2:02 | movie, I got to see a stage play and I'm
- 2:05 | curious about like the rehearsing of
- 2:07 | that. Was there a lot of rehearsals for
- 2:08 | that or was it pretty much we want this
- 2:10 | to feel raw and sort of unscripted? We
- 2:13 | want to make it feel authentic. How did
- 2:14 | you all pull that off as actors? That's
- 2:16 | a great question. I don't remember. We
- 2:18 | definitely talked quite a bit about the
- 2:19 | scene, but I feel like we didn't
- 2:21 | rehearse it until that first day of
- 2:22 | shooting, right? We blocked. We had
- 2:23 | auditioned with that scene, right? But
- 2:25 | the scene that we auditioned with was
- 2:28 | although on the page it was the same
- 2:30 | scene, the setup of the room was comp
- 2:32 | was completely simplified for the screen
- 2:34 | test and and the the complexity of the
- 2:36 | geography of Lois's apartment in the
- 2:38 | film is part of what keeps the scene
- 2:40 | interesting as we're moving around it.
- 2:42 | But I think we had two days to shoot the
- 2:43 | that that scene. And um and I think as
- 2:47 | is usual, you start with a blocking
- 2:50 | rehearsal where you kind of find the
- 2:52 | scene. It was probably a longer blocking
- 2:53 | rehearsal than normal cuz it's 10 pages,
- 2:55 | but we've been talking about it like a
- 2:56 | stage play. That's kind of what it felt
- 2:58 | like. The first two days shooting in
- 2:59 | Atlanta, we shot that scene and it it
- 3:01 | laid this really sturdy foundation
- 3:04 | underneath this relationship, underneath
- 3:06 | these two characters that we got to
- 3:08 | carry with us. We got to try so much
- 3:10 | stuff and there was something really
- 3:12 | wonderful about how intimate it felt in
- 3:14 | a movie of this scale. You, you know, we
- 3:17 | all came in with these ideas of what it
- 3:18 | would feel like to be in a giant action
- 3:21 | movie superhero blockbuster and suddenly
- 3:24 | it felt like we were doing a play and
- 3:25 | that was pretty special fun. David, can
- 3:28 | you tell me what was your favorite part
- 3:29 | about your fight with Ultramath? The
- 3:32 | baseball field was amazing. That was
- 3:34 | like intense because we were outside in
- 3:36 | the elements. is hot in those suits. We
- 3:39 | had Eddie Gggggi and Gabby as well. So,
- 3:42 | it was all of these different fights
- 3:44 | going on at the same time. It's so cool
- 3:45 | to get to have a fight in the movie. It
- 3:47 | spans so many different locations. We've
- 3:49 | we've seen a little bit in the on the
- 3:51 | baseball field, but it's a big fight and
- 3:53 | it's got many phases. So that was some
- 3:56 | of the fun of it was getting to keep
- 3:58 | working through it and and try to build
- 4:00 | the stakes of it and and play the
- 4:02 | exhaustion of the of Superman who who
- 4:04 | sort of has has met his match in this
- 4:06 | foe and and is really put on the back
- 4:08 | foot. And that was just a really cool
- 4:11 | place to shoot a bit of a fight and a
- 4:13 | bit of a scene as well.
- 4:28 | I'm on the fence about this, so I need
- 4:29 | to ask y'all. We're just going to go
- 4:30 | down the line. Anthony, I want to start
- 4:32 | with you. Justice Gang, cool name or no?
- 4:35 | I think it's a cool name. I'm I'm I'm
- 4:37 | open for whatever. Just happy to be
- 4:38 | included. Okay, good. Easy loose answer.
- 4:41 | Isabella, how do you feel saying it? It
- 4:44 | sounds pretty awesome to me. Okay, well
- 4:48 | then it's awesome. Nathan, I'm pretty
- 4:49 | sure I know your answer. My character
- 4:51 | feels one way about it. I think it's a
- 4:53 | it sounds a little unofficial. It sounds
- 4:55 | a little casual. I think it could have
- 4:57 | more weight to it. Justice Society
- 4:58 | sounds a little more integral and and
- 5:01 | and put together. The gang sounds a
- 5:03 | little rag tag. And this is what I like
- 5:05 | about it cuz it's not the Justice League
- 5:07 | International. It's not the the JSI,
- 5:10 | right? It's the rag tag upstarts who
- 5:14 | have just been thrown together under a
- 5:16 | corporate banner. I like the name. Was
- 5:17 | there any like backstory given to y'all
- 5:19 | by James or did y'all just show up on
- 5:21 | set and like, "Hey, how do you think we
- 5:22 | all kind of came together in this
- 5:24 | universe?" We got those questions. I
- 5:25 | don't know. We didn't We didn't really
- 5:26 | cover that. We didn't really We knew we
- 5:29 | were under under Lortex umbrella. Yeah,
- 5:32 | we we had a corporate sponsorship. How
- 5:34 | did you come to the the Justice game? I
- 5:36 | was scared to ask. Um
- 5:40 | I wasn't sure like what I was supposed
- 5:42 | to already know and so I used never
- 5:45 | asked. We're trusting the process. This
- 5:47 | is behind the scenes. We trust We trust
- 5:49 | the filmmaker. We know he's not going to
- 5:50 | lead us down a path that, you know, we
- 5:52 | wouldn't want to go willy-nilly. We know
- 5:54 | how Metamorpho gets in. Yeah. I just
- 5:55 | showed up. That's right. And then I had
- 5:58 | lines kind of like a practicalation.
- 6:01 | Yeah. Like a practical That's true.
- 6:03 | Yeah. I mean, Metamorphosis is literally
- 6:05 | part of your name. What was your
- 6:07 | favorite shape to sort of shift into?
- 6:09 | Can I put one in? Yeah, please. I call
- 6:11 | the I have my own name for this one. I
- 6:13 | call it tentacular. Tentacular. Yeah. I
- 6:16 | love that. Love that. For me, I love
- 6:19 | that name. And I also love Nathan's
- 6:20 | delivery of the name. Tentacular.
- 6:24 | It's the word. Yeah. But it's also
- 6:26 | tentacular. Eddie, you you have so many
- 6:29 | great lines in this movie and it it's
- 6:31 | almost like the lines really help inform
- 6:34 | the audience about your character like
- 6:35 | right off the bat. Do you still say some
- 6:37 | of those lines to yourself just to kind
- 6:39 | of pump you up? I mean, if I had that
- 6:41 | line, I would say, "I'm damn Mr.
- 6:43 | Terrific." every morning. I do say that.
- 6:46 | Uh,
- 6:47 | I am a blank slate. I don't remember
- 6:50 | what I say in the movie. I'm going to
- 6:52 | see it for the first time at the
- 6:53 | premiere. It'll all come rushing back to
- 6:55 | me and probably for a couple of weeks
- 6:56 | I'll know the lines again and then I'll
- 6:58 | move on to the next job. So, it's like
- 7:00 | studying for a test where like you just
- 7:01 | have the short-term memory and then as
- 7:02 | soon as you're done taking the test,
- 7:04 | it's out of there. If you do plays and
- 7:05 | you're doing eight shows a week and
- 7:06 | you're doing that for an extended period
- 7:07 | of time, those lines will stay with you
- 7:09 | for the rest of your life. But movies,
- 7:11 | it's kind of like one and done. You're
- 7:12 | with it for a small period of time and
- 7:14 | then then you're on to the next thing.
- 7:16 | Yes. Nathan, for you, I'm curious about
- 7:18 | your character Guy. We'll see more of
- 7:20 | him in lanterns, but do you know where
- 7:22 | you rank as far as the lantern
- 7:25 | hierarchy? If you have an emergency and
- 7:27 | you need, you know, someone who to come
- 7:29 | and wield one of the most powerful
- 7:30 | weapons in the universe, you want to
- 7:33 | call a Green Lantern. You say, "We need
- 7:36 | a Green Lantern." But and then they say,
- 7:38 | "You're going to get Guy Gardner." You'd
- 7:39 | say, "Ah, crap. of all the lanterns,
- 7:42 | that's the last one you want. But at the
- 7:46 | same time, if you're one of the
- 7:47 | guardians of OA and you need some dirty
- 7:49 | work done, you go right to Gaia. Hey, we
- 7:51 | need you to do this thing. It's a little
- 7:52 | unseamming. He's like, I'll do it. No
- 7:54 | problem. Mainly with the help of Hawk
- 7:56 | Girl. Exactly. You save Superman's
- 7:59 | behind multiple times in this movie.
- 8:01 | Behind every powerful man is a is more
- 8:04 | powerful woman with wings. Is that the
- 8:07 | Is that the same? It's a version of
- 8:08 | that. Yeah. I don't know. I think Hawk
- 8:11 | Girl is there and she's reluctant, but I
- 8:14 | think she has a truth that she has not
- 8:17 | shown and that's what I like. I like,
- 8:20 | you know, she's keeping her cars close
- 8:22 | to her chest. She's sort of a mystery.
- 8:25 | She's a very different kind of hero.
- 8:27 | She's a very different kind of hero for
- 8:29 | sure. I have my theories as to why she
- 8:32 | is the way that she is, but I also don't
- 8:35 | kind of want to know. I kind of want
- 8:36 | James to reveal it to me. But for now, I
- 8:39 | really, really love her dynamic with the
- 8:40 | Justice gang.
- 8:43 | Um, and I love that these two really
- 8:48 | piss each other off in this movie. It's
- 8:51 | a beautiful working relationship that
- 8:53 | that you two have, but really, I mean,
- 8:54 | watching once Anthony kind of joins a
- 8:56 | team, all four of you kicking ass on
- 8:59 | screen, it's almost like you all feel
- 9:01 | like you could have done this job
- 9:03 | without Superman. Is that the truth or
- 9:05 | did we need soups a little bit in this
- 9:07 | movie? The movie is called Superman.
- 9:09 | It's called Superman, but who's doing
- 9:12 | the dirty work? No one approach can get
- 9:14 | the job done at the end of the day. You
- 9:16 | need a group of superheroes, a team. A
- 9:19 | gang, if you will. Gang, if you will.
- 9:21 | And thank God that we're exploring a
- 9:22 | universe that's already populated with a
- 9:24 | bunch of superheroes. Yeah, Superman has
- 9:25 | a lot of powers. One of them isn't being
- 9:27 | everywhere at once. That's right. Right.
- 9:28 | That's right. But he does have the
- 9:30 | ability to drink the ocean, right?
- 9:32 | What's the new one? Um, planet. Salty.
- 9:35 | Yeah. Yes.
- 9:37 | Super Sodium. We We've been corporatized
- 9:39 | though, haven't we? We have. Yes,
- 9:41 | legitimately. You didn't ask that
- 9:42 | question. What? You didn't ask that
- 9:44 | question. We are corporate sponsors. We
- 9:46 | are. No, we are. I did ask that one. I
- 9:47 | kind of assumed when we were matchy
- 9:49 | matchy, but yeah, Superman has the
- 9:51 | freedom, if you will, to to have his own
- 9:53 | little uh glyph. So, he kind of guides
- 9:57 | us in this in this journey and inspires
- 9:59 | us to step out of our comfort zone. And
- 10:01 | we all do. We all have our own little
- 10:03 | moment of coming to Jesus and and and
- 10:05 | saving these people. You know,
- 10:09 | no matter what you do to me, Luther,
- 10:13 | your plans will work.
- 10:17 | Hey, buddy. Eyes up here.
- 10:22 | James, I love the way you set Superman
- 10:23 | up in this new movie where he's the
- 10:26 | Superman that audiences have come to
- 10:28 | know and love for decades, but this
- 10:30 | Superman is not perfect and a lot of
- 10:32 | times he needs help. Why was that
- 10:34 | important to establish right off the
- 10:35 | bat? Well, because I wanted a Superman
- 10:37 | that people could relate to and I
- 10:38 | wanted, you know, I think one of the
- 10:40 | things that interested me about telling
- 10:41 | a Superman movie was to take the
- 10:43 | Superman that I loved and all the
- 10:45 | iconography associated with Superman and
- 10:48 | be completely true to him, but just get
- 10:50 | to know him a little bit better, like
- 10:52 | examine his interior life a little bit
- 10:54 | more. And I think this comes at a time
- 10:55 | in Superman's life when some things he
- 10:58 | believes about himself, he finds out
- 10:59 | aren't true. So, at the heart of this is
- 11:01 | a personal story. and watching this
- 11:03 | movie unfold right off the bat. It's it
- 11:05 | it's a smart thing you do because
- 11:07 | there's so much information to sort of
- 11:09 | convey to the audience about what the
- 11:11 | backstory of all this is and we get a
- 11:14 | nice little blurb. Why was that
- 11:16 | information important to convey to the
- 11:18 | audience? We're entering this whole
- 11:19 | world and universe of superheroes. I
- 11:22 | didn't want to have to show him, you
- 11:24 | know, landing in a rocket ship again. I
- 11:26 | mean, for the five people on planet
- 11:28 | Earth who don't know that Superman came
- 11:31 | from Krypton, I'm sure there's someone
- 11:33 | that doesn't know that, but I can
- 11:34 | explain that away with a sentence, but
- 11:36 | also let people know this is a world
- 11:38 | that's different than our world. This is
- 11:40 | an alternate reality where metahumans
- 11:42 | have existed for a long time, where
- 11:43 | there's magic and sorcery and and
- 11:45 | Superman has existed for a few years.
- 11:48 | So, I don't have to get into all that
- 11:50 | stupid stuff uh you know, through too
- 11:54 | much exposition. It's a minutia of it
- 11:56 | where but I'm sure like we're all fans
- 11:57 | of this stuff too and we come from that
- 11:59 | world and so like when you sit down to
- 12:01 | to to craft a movie like this is the
- 12:04 | first day is it just so overwhelming
- 12:06 | like how do I put all this stuff that I
- 12:08 | love into a movie are you like losing
- 12:10 | your mind or or did you feel like you
- 12:12 | know you knew where you wanted to go
- 12:13 | with this right I knew exactly where I
- 12:15 | wanted to go and so you know I think
- 12:17 | that by the time I get to to set most of
- 12:21 | my work is done you know I've
- 12:22 | storyboarded every frame of the movie
- 12:24 | I've gone through the script again and
- 12:26 | again with people I trust giving me
- 12:29 | notes and and you know taking them into
- 12:31 | account. Feel like by the time I get to
- 12:32 | set I know exactly what is what I'm
- 12:35 | doing. You know where I'm going next.
- 12:37 | You know we happen to shoot the
- 12:38 | beginning of the movie. The first thing
- 12:40 | we were in Swalbard in Norway and it was
- 12:42 | shooting the shot of you know David
- 12:44 | lying in the snow as the camera's coming
- 12:46 | down and into him. You see the blood in
- 12:48 | his mouth and he whistles. That was the
- 12:50 | very very first shot. We got through
- 12:52 | pretty quickly and I was like so stoked.
- 12:54 | Yeah, we're ahead already. That's right.
- 12:57 | Um, he has a lot of help in this movie
- 12:59 | as I pointed out. A lot of that comes
- 13:01 | from the Justice Gang. What makes them a
- 13:04 | Justice gang and how do we get them to a
- 13:06 | league? Like, what's it mean? You know,
- 13:07 | we'll have to keep watching DC movies to
- 13:10 | find that one out. But they certainly
- 13:12 | aren't a league yet. They are not We
- 13:14 | don't even think they're a gang. And
- 13:15 | they're just a disperate group of people
- 13:17 | that dislike each other working for
- 13:19 | their corporate master, Maxwell Lord.
- 13:21 | Yeah. What's the why was it important to
- 13:23 | establish this justice entity with these
- 13:27 | core characters first? Because I like
- 13:29 | those characters cuz I like Hawk Girl
- 13:31 | and Green Lantern and Mr. Terrific. And
- 13:33 | so I'm like, I'll put those guys in a
- 13:35 | movie. I love those characters. So I
- 13:37 | think it was really about just taking
- 13:40 | characters that we haven't normally seen
- 13:42 | on film and putting them in movies. As a
- 13:44 | fan of both pop and punk music, um, what
- 13:47 | is it about the Crab Joys? Can you
- 13:48 | describe to me the Crab Joys and and why
- 13:51 | they were the perfect band to illustrate
- 13:53 | Clark's music fandom? Well, the Mighty
- 13:55 | Crab Joys, you know, a fictional band
- 13:58 | that uh perform music that is uh like,
- 14:02 | you know, the really sort of sellout pop
- 14:04 | punk bands of the very, you know, late
- 14:07 | 90s, early 2000s, you know, things that
- 14:10 | I would have scoffed at. Frankly, you're
- 14:12 | more of a Lois kind of guy. Yeah, but I
- 14:15 | am Oh, I'm very much more like Lois. I
- 14:17 | would have like, you know, been like
- 14:18 | that's not We're not talking about Sex
- 14:20 | Pistons or Clash here. We're talking
- 14:21 | about I don't want to put any bands down
- 14:23 | because honestly, some of those bands
- 14:25 | I've come to appreciate. I'm much less,
- 14:27 | you know, judgmental of music than I
- 14:29 | used to be. I've come to really love all
- 14:31 | types of music. And there's bad bands
- 14:33 | out there, but there's also a lot of
- 14:34 | great bands that play with, you know, in
- 14:36 | genres that maybe people don't always
- 14:38 | respect as much. And it's fun to attach
- 14:40 | something that we associate here with
- 14:41 | Earth that's like ours with some being
- 14:44 | like a Superman. That's right. Who
- 14:45 | himself is a metahuman. Can you describe
- 14:47 | to me like what a metahuman is in your
- 14:49 | universe? First of all, I don't think
- 14:51 | anyone completely agrees on what the
- 14:53 | term means. Basically, it's it's
- 14:55 | superhumans. I would not think of Batman
- 14:58 | as a metahuman, but you know what? Like
- 15:01 | Mr. Terrific and Lex Luthther are so
- 15:03 | smart. There might be a genetic anomaly
- 15:06 | happening with those guys. Lex couldn't
- 15:08 | possibly be a metahuman. Mr. Terrific
- 15:10 | because he works with all these other
- 15:12 | things. You know, you could possibly
- 15:14 | think that he's a metahuman. I think it
- 15:15 | really is dependent on who the person is
- 15:17 | and what they it actually becomes
- 15:19 | important as we go further in our story
- 15:21 | in Peacemaker and other places what a
- 15:23 | metahuman is exactly.
- 15:29 | Superman,
- 15:31 | [Music]
- 15:38 | the most powerful being on planet Earth.
- 15:42 | Who raised you as a child? I'll kill
- 15:46 | them, too. It's a thrill to get to talk
- 15:47 | to y'all. So, I'm so curious as to how
- 15:49 | much of the backstory of the Day We
- 15:52 | Planet that James gave you or did you
- 15:54 | make that up in your head specifically
- 15:55 | in terms of Superman and how you broke
- 15:59 | the news that there was this being
- 16:01 | Superman now on Earth? He gave us great
- 16:03 | direction on, you know, how we were
- 16:05 | going to approach it and then we also
- 16:07 | did our own deep dives. And what happens
- 16:10 | with that is you find out some curious
- 16:12 | things in the whole cannon of the
- 16:14 | Superman world that for me I did not
- 16:17 | know. And then I used it. It was kind of
- 16:19 | it's a part of why I'm always grumpy,
- 16:21 | which is Lex Luthther had an affair with
- 16:23 | my wife and my second son may be his.
- 16:27 | And so I thought that was the most uh
- 16:31 | unique thing I had ever heard about in
- 16:33 | the Superman world. So that is my
- 16:35 | driving force in this whole movie. You
- 16:38 | know, I want to get to Lex Luthther
- 16:40 | because that's the guy who slept with my
- 16:42 | wife. We need to get him on Mari. Wow.
- 16:44 | Oh, that's incredible. Michaela, for
- 16:47 | you, how did you approach playing this
- 16:49 | character and and their relationship to
- 16:51 | Cart Kent in the newsroom? I went back
- 16:54 | and looked at all the comics and where
- 16:56 | Cat originated from and what she was
- 16:58 | about. She came from Hollywood and, you
- 17:02 | know, had a had a husband and a son and
- 17:05 | was just over all of it. And I think
- 17:08 | that Clark for her, you know, in the
- 17:11 | comic, he's everything that she's ever
- 17:13 | wanted. He's pure good. He's a little
- 17:17 | unsure of himself, which I think she
- 17:18 | loves because she's been around these
- 17:20 | narcissistic men. Her and Lois are in
- 17:23 | the comics that kind of go headtohead.
- 17:25 | Um, but in the movie you don't you don't
- 17:28 | see much of that. So hopefully there's
- 17:30 | more to come. Yeah, Clark's so wholesome
- 17:32 | and good. And Beck, it it's got to be
- 17:34 | fun to bully Clark Ken in the news just
- 17:36 | a little bit, right? He's the best. It's
- 17:39 | always so fun to play a filterless
- 17:42 | character who just says whatever he
- 17:43 | wants, especially when they're like
- 17:45 | things you're not supposed to say, you
- 17:47 | know? Yeah. Where does that come from
- 17:48 | for you? Like how did you approach
- 17:49 | playing that character beyond just like
- 17:51 | I'm just going to give this guy some
- 17:52 | guff day in and day out? He is there are
- 17:55 | so many different iterations of uh of
- 17:59 | Steve. You know, he started out as like
- 18:00 | a football player and the first time we
- 18:02 | see him in the comics, he's like going
- 18:04 | to the Super Bowl after spending a night
- 18:06 | with a couple women and saves a baby
- 18:07 | falling out of a window, breaks his
- 18:09 | knees, you know, like it's a crazy
- 18:12 | story. I mean, for me, he was an a great
- 18:14 | athlete in high school, went to college
- 18:16 | to try to play, didn't make the team,
- 18:18 | and he's just kind of he's got this like
- 18:21 | chip on his shoulder. He's like, he sees
- 18:23 | himself as an athlete. He sees himself
- 18:24 | as the cool guy, but he's not really.
- 18:27 | So, when he sees, you know, this this
- 18:30 | sort of dorky guy getting all, you know,
- 18:32 | front page news and being celebrated,
- 18:34 | he's like, "You suck, dude. You got
- 18:38 | nothing. Like, you're lame." Like, you
- 18:39 | know, he just That's where it comes
- 18:41 | from. He's really like he feels
- 18:42 | overlooked. And so, uh, that's kind of
- 18:44 | the backstory that fed into just like
- 18:46 | letting, you know, letting it rip with,
- 18:48 | uh, Clark. Yeah. And and and Skyler,
- 18:50 | it's so fun watching your gym because
- 18:52 | he's really crafty. He's he's a good
- 18:54 | reporter. Who's the better reporter in
- 18:55 | the newsroom between you and Lois? Lois,
- 18:58 | no question. Okay. And yeah, Rachel, she
- 19:01 | did the like coming into production, uh
- 19:04 | she had spent months with real reporters
- 19:07 | and like learning the tricks of the
- 19:09 | trade and and had immersed herself in
- 19:10 | that world. And so she was kind of like
- 19:12 | the person on the group project who does
- 19:14 | like 99% of the work. So from day one, I
- 19:17 | was like, great, I'm following your
- 19:18 | lead. you tell me what to do. And that
- 19:21 | kind of is our dynamic in the movie. So,
- 19:23 | it all worked out. And Wendell, for you,
- 19:25 | I love seeing your version of Perry. Was
- 19:28 | there an inspiration beyond just the
- 19:31 | different iterations of Perry that we've
- 19:32 | seen before for you playing that
- 19:34 | character? Since I was a part of this
- 19:36 | fraternity of a group of very disperate
- 19:39 | men and actors who have done it, I
- 19:41 | wanted something that connected us all,
- 19:43 | you know, and uh that was the cigar, you
- 19:46 | know. That's the first image you see in
- 19:48 | the comic. One image that you have in
- 19:50 | Think of Perry in this movie uh that you
- 19:52 | would see that cigar and uh and it shows
- 19:55 | you the times. He's not smoking it cuz
- 19:57 | you can't smoke in the building. But uh
- 19:59 | you show his rebellious nature by well I
- 20:02 | can't smoke it but I'm going to always
- 20:04 | have it. What did you feel like Perry's
- 20:05 | biggest concerns were in reporting the
- 20:08 | news as it relates to Superman
- 20:10 | specifically? that we wouldn't have any
- 20:12 | impact that uh some sort of uh uh uh
- 20:16 | some content creator would get a scoop
- 20:19 | on us or that some other platform and
- 20:21 | how can a newspaper still be of great
- 20:24 | importance and all and my suspicions
- 20:26 | about this new guy that I brought on
- 20:28 | Clark Kent are driving me. I think
- 20:30 | there's I'm suspicious about who he is
- 20:32 | and the connection there. So, it uh it
- 20:34 | actually has um added some fuel to the
- 20:38 | fire and keeping the paper alive. So,
- 20:40 | for the month this movie takes place,
- 20:41 | who's employee of the month? Is it
- 20:43 | somebody I'm looking at, or is it
- 20:44 | somebody not currently in this room? Not
- 20:47 | currently in this room is Lois. Lois is
- 20:51 | she's she's our girl. Yeah, man. She's
- 20:53 | the one. She's the one.
- 20:56 | [Music]
- 20:58 | We finally meet.
- 21:01 | Now, as planned,
- 21:07 | I'll destroy you. I'm so curious to talk
- 21:10 | to you about your powers in this movie
- 21:12 | because like you know fingers are cool,
- 21:14 | blades are better. So what was it like
- 21:17 | on set having that? Like how did that
- 21:19 | work on set? They had real blades with
- 21:23 | the actual size that they mine were
- 21:25 | going to be so I could rehearse because
- 21:27 | if I had to load up and then do this I
- 21:30 | would you know decapitate myself. So I
- 21:32 | needed to rehearse with that so it
- 21:34 | looked okay and it was safe for engineer
- 21:36 | to do all of the things. That was really
- 21:37 | really cool. But more than that, the
- 21:39 | blades and all of that was like real
- 21:41 | imagination. But with James, we came up
- 21:44 | with this kind of language where how
- 21:46 | does it feel to transform your body in
- 21:48 | different things? So is it tickling? Is
- 21:51 | it feel like bees? Is it painful
- 21:53 | sometimes? So yes, when she connects to
- 21:56 | the computer for example, it is kind of
- 21:58 | like an intimate relationship with the
- 22:00 | machine. She is part machine. So it's
- 22:02 | kind of like a sexual encounter that
- 22:04 | she's having. It was really funny on set
- 22:06 | because the way Nicholas was reacting to
- 22:08 | it was like, "Oh, oh, that was good."
- 22:11 | Great. We were like, "Oh, uh, so, um,
- 22:13 | it's really interesting for me. It was
- 22:15 | important to like bring it back to my
- 22:16 | body to to make make it real for me so
- 22:20 | hopefully it could be real for the
- 22:21 | audience." That's intense, man. Like,
- 22:24 | just because watching it, you you're
- 22:25 | running through every emotion it feels
- 22:27 | like in that sequence. So, where it goes
- 22:29 | from like, "Oh, this is enjoyable. I'm
- 22:30 | gathering information to like I can't
- 22:32 | handle what's happening." It's a lot
- 22:33 | because it's alien technology and it's
- 22:35 | something that she's never encountered
- 22:37 | before. So, it's interesting. It's
- 22:39 | exciting, but it's also scary and
- 22:40 | dangerous. But, you know, that's right
- 22:42 | up engineers alley.
- 22:45 | Sarah, for you, Eve. Eve is so sweet. I
- 22:47 | like Eve so much. Is right.
- 22:51 | And you know, people are going to be
- 22:52 | asking this question like all the nice
- 22:53 | guys out there like, "Well, I'm here.
- 22:55 | How does she fall for a guy like Lex
- 22:56 | Luthther?" He looks like Nicholas Holtz
- 22:59 | for that helps. And then he's obviously
- 23:02 | a very powerful rich man and I don't
- 23:05 | think Eve comes from money and I think
- 23:07 | she likes the lifestyle that he provides
- 23:10 | for uh for her and also the stability
- 23:14 | feeling safe because he has all the
- 23:17 | money to keep her safe until he doesn't
- 23:22 | like that's the problem with dating
- 23:23 | super villains until it doesn't until it
- 23:26 | doesn't. Not a great Instagram
- 23:27 | boyfriend. You're taking most of those
- 23:28 | selfies by myself, right? Yes. But hey,
- 23:31 | it takes me to all these beautiful
- 23:32 | places. My gram is popping, you know,
- 23:35 | who's popping. Was there like a meat
- 23:37 | cute like backstory that y'all had that
- 23:40 | you and Nick came up with or that James
- 23:42 | conveyed to you as far as like how y'all
- 23:44 | actually like got together? It wasn't
- 23:46 | really necessary. I created, but
- 23:48 | whatever to give me my intentions with
- 23:50 | the character. We don't really get to
- 23:52 | explore much of our relationship in the
- 23:55 | movie. Was it a dating app? fully in the
- 23:57 | dating. That would be a twist. He could
- 23:59 | have been on the high one of the higher
- 24:01 | end ones, right? Yeah, we probably met
- 24:03 | at some party and he wo me if I was to
- 24:07 | guess. That's fair. Yeah, he's in the
- 24:08 | background. One of your selfies
- 24:10 | probably. Like, who's I'll tag him. Um
- 24:13 | Angela, for you, what's it like fighting
- 24:15 | with Superman? Like, what are you going
- 24:16 | to take from that battle decades from
- 24:18 | now? You look back, what are you going
- 24:20 | to say? It was dreamy. No, I'm not only
- 24:23 | fighting Superman, I'm beating his ass.
- 24:25 | You're kicking some ass in here. Really?
- 24:27 | And I feel like that's the thing that I
- 24:29 | love the most about my character that it
- 24:31 | truly is a formidable foe for Superman
- 24:34 | because he's so powerful. He's the most
- 24:36 | powerful man on the planet. But then
- 24:38 | Angela is also pretty undestructible and
- 24:40 | she can can become anything she wants.
- 24:43 | So, it was a really interesting match
- 24:45 | with Superman and David. We had this
- 24:47 | really crazy and challenging stunt that
- 24:50 | we were sliding and then we have like
- 24:51 | turn he turned over me and it was very
- 24:55 | difficult and we rehearsed for months
- 24:56 | and when we were on set it was raining
- 24:58 | and I remember asking David like hey
- 25:00 | David what do you need from me to make
- 25:02 | this happen and he's like just let it
- 25:05 | wash over you it'll happen trust me he's
- 25:08 | not normal he is Superman so yeah no it
- 25:11 | was the best I'm going to I'm going to
- 25:13 | take with me that it was one of the most
- 25:15 | fun experienc experiences of my life.
- 25:17 | Y'all both serve such an important
- 25:19 | purpose in this movie because like
- 25:20 | you're one of the badass villains who's
- 25:22 | taken it to Superman. And for you, Eve
- 25:25 | is one of the primary sources of comic
- 25:27 | relief. So, how did you feel on set?
- 25:29 | Like, how far to take it? Because
- 25:31 | there's so much serious stuff going on
- 25:33 | in this film. How are you able to make
- 25:34 | the comedy like hit so note perfect like
- 25:37 | you did? Well, well, it started with a
- 25:39 | brilliant script from James. you know,
- 25:41 | he's the best at what he does and the
- 25:44 | script already had everything there. I
- 25:46 | didn't have to do much. But on set then
- 25:49 | James just gives you so much freedom and
- 25:51 | he's just always with his microphone and
- 25:53 | be like you remember he thinks of a joke
- 25:56 | and be like now say this and and then
- 25:58 | you say and then you can hear him laugh
- 26:00 | and it's just like that collaborative.
- 26:02 | You kind of do a few takes just as a
- 26:04 | page and then he he just makes you try
- 26:07 | different things. try different things
- 26:08 | and you know uh one of the scenes like
- 26:11 | we just really kept going for like 10
- 26:13 | minutes and just fun and you just kind
- 26:16 | of he gives you that kind of freedom but
- 26:19 | but because he gives you such good bones
- 26:21 | from the script it's just just makes
- 26:23 | your life easy. And lastly just for both
- 26:26 | y'all real quick what do you love most
- 26:28 | about this version of Superman? That it
- 26:31 | has a lot of heart. When I when I watch
- 26:34 | the movie, at the end of it, I told
- 26:35 | James, it makes me feel hope for
- 26:38 | humanity. It makes me feel because, you
- 26:39 | know, oh, humans are the worst. But when
- 26:42 | I watch the movie, I go, we are
- 26:44 | inherently good and we need to tap into
- 26:46 | that and it's there and I can see and I
- 26:48 | can feel it. So, when I see this movie,
- 26:51 | I'm ready to take action in my life and
- 26:53 | and go out and be a better person. So,
- 26:55 | and that's not easy to do because he's
- 26:58 | also not preaching while he's, you know,
- 27:00 | when we watch the movie. and it's fun.
- 27:03 | So, I think it's such a good movie.
- 27:06 | Yeah, I think everything that she said
- 27:08 | and also it I love the fact that it just
- 27:11 | feels like a comic book put into the
- 27:14 | screen and and I just love the colors
- 27:17 | and I just love that it's like light but
- 27:20 | it has heart, it has humor without
- 27:22 | losing its um uh foundation. And I
- 27:26 | remember when I start like this feels
- 27:28 | like I'm watching a comic book which is
- 27:33 | like yeah that was the thing that I
